Preparing Your Workforce for Summer Heat Safety

Preparing Your Workforce for Summer Heat Safety

As temperatures rise heading into the summer months, workplace heat safety should be top of mind for every employer. Whether your teams work outdoors, in warehouses, manufacturing facilities or other high-temperature environments, planning ahead can help prevent heat-related illnesses, lost productivity, and workplace injuries.

According to OSHA, thousands of workers become sick from occupational heat exposure every year — yet heat illness is largely preventable with the right preparation and safety measures in place.

At OneSource Staffing, we encourage employers to take proactive steps now before extreme summer temperatures arrive. OSHA recommends creating a written Heat Illness Prevention Plan that includes:

  • Access to water, rest, and shaded or cooled recovery areas
  • Training supervisors and employees to recognize heat illness symptoms
  • Adjusting schedules or workloads during high-heat conditions
  • Allowing new or returning workers time to acclimate to warmer environments
  • Emergency response procedures for heat-related incidents
  • Ongoing monitoring of workplace temperatures and conditions

Employers should also remember that heat hazards can affect both outdoor and indoor workplaces. Warehouses, production facilities and manufacturing plants can all experience dangerous heat exposure during the summer months.

Planning ahead not only protects employees — it also helps reduce downtime, improve morale, and support overall operational efficiency during peak summer workloads.
